Loop Song Version 2

I've revisited my previous Soundtrap creation to add in some of my own personal touches. As I stated previously, the song I made was entirely comprised of loops, however, in this new iteration I have personalized all of the drums in the song by reprogramming them using MIDI. The rest of the song remains untouched of course, and so each of the new drums follow the same genre conventions of the previous selections. See here:

The general rhythm of the original drums remain intact, with only some minor changes outside of the obvious difference in sound font. First up we have the drums for the chorus which I wanted to keep pretty similar to the original.

A problem with how the original loop was that it didn't actually have a hat pattern, and the hats you heard was another loop layered over it. The first thing I did was consolidate each loop and replicate them within the drum rack. The rhythm follows a pretty standard kick-snare pattern with the only changes I made being some added flair at the end of each measure. The second measure has more of a unique ending than the first one, acting as a sort of drum fill leading into the repeat of the loop.

The drums in the second half of the chorus remove a lot of the uniqueness of the first half for a more energetic feeling. Initially this was done by layering two of the same drum loops on top of each other with different starting times to act as a sort of buildup into the drop, but this can be much more personalized as you will see with the next drums.

These drums serve as the actual buildup which was severely lacking in the original version of the song due to loop limitations. This only plays once, at the tail end of the second chorus pattern. As you can see, it's a pretty standard EDM building, playing the kick and snare in faster and more rapid succession.

This is the first pattern which utilizes a different sound font, or I suppose drum kit would be a better term. I went for a more Trap oriented kit and pattern for this, which is the loop for the first drop. If you recall, this was the same idea as the original loop for the first drop. There isn't too much to say about this pattern. Its a lot slower than the rest of the patterns though I tried to go for a more slightly complex hat pattern. It didn't turn out quite how I wanted since I couldn't sub divide into triplets, but the eighth notes follow a similar idea.

This pattern is for the second drop of the song. It is much more House influenced than even the chorus drums, and as you can see, there is more going on in this pattern in terms of sounds. I'll admit though that I didn't put much thought into the specifics of where these additional sounds would go, and followed my standard process of clicking stuff in until it sounds good. Oh yeah and this pattern uses a different drum kit as well. I believe this one was meant specifically for Dubstep music but it was the closest I could find to a Prog House kit so that's why I chose it.

This final pattern is exactly the same as the previous save for the ride cymbal which I excluded to create a more bare sound given that this pattern is used after the second drop.

And that is pretty much all I did for the second variation of my loop song project, excluding some more minor alterations like volume adjustments and the like. This will likely be my last post about this specific project, but I'll be sure to keep you updated if I make any major changes like I did here.
